We invest hundreds of thousands of dollars each year in maintaining and improving our properties, and in operating and expanding our many\u00a0conservation and species restoration projects<\/a><\/span>.<\/p>

Where possible, or where existing, long-term relationships don\u2019t already exist, we try hard to use local Hawke\u2019s Bay \/ East Coast contractors and service providers to undertake this work.<\/p>

In this way we ensure that our local communities benefit from the work we are undertaking. Conservation initiatives like ours cannot exist without the support of many wonderful people in our local communities. A significant amount of the conservation work that happens on our properties is undertaken by volunteers; good people who give freely of their time and energy to support our work and make a difference in New Zealand\u2019s wild places.<\/p>

We are always blown away by their energy, commitment and dedication. People don’t realise how much conservation work is done up and down the country by good people like these \u2013 they are truly the unsung heroes of the New Zealand conservation story.<\/p>

So much of it is about friends, neighbours and our volunteers banding together to protect our many vulnerable native plant and animal species. Frequently in the dark and the cold and the pouring rain. They do it for love.
